The Hack is on!!!

Me
Yesterday, at the BLUG meet, we finalised our hack fest

We are going to create a universal dictionary app.

Hopefully, this will integrate into GTK+ itself.

1) You select any word, and then right click on it
2) Select 'lookup'
3) This sends the message 'lookup word' along dbus
4) Our app listens on dbus, picks up the word, and then appears with the meaning of the word.

We will start hacking this really soon.

I do not think that we can commit this into GTK+ itself (as this causes dbus dependencies), but at least we can make plugins for common apps.

After we got an idea of the hack, we were all given phony titles (mostly by ourselves)...

I am in charge of 'leveraging our core competencies', and using 'carisma and accent to lure other suckers into doing the boring parts'

The college guys (me, anush, and few guys from PESIT) are in charge of making the GUI for the app, as well as having it catch the dbus calls.

The idea of this hackfest is to get the newbies (like me :) hacking.

Progress:
--> I've already made a script which queries wikipedia for the word... The easy part is done.

cool concept

Pretty interesting idea. If you could get your team sign up to the Fedora mentors and hack it out in the list it could be even better. Having the dbus and gtk maintainers on the list cant hurt ;-)
